KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal `Prachanda' today directed the party-aligned All Nepal National Independent Students UnionRevolutionary (ANNISU-R) to select a stronger leadership that can begin preparations for the people's revolt in right earnest. "It's clear that nothing can be taken ahead without the destruction of all old settings of the country through one powerful blow," said Lekhnath Neupane, ANNISU-R president, following a meeting between party office-bearers and ANNISU-R leaders at the Nayabazar-based residence of party chairman Dahal. The party headquarters had invited the student leaders to discuss preparations for the upcoming 18th national conference of the union. "The party wants a stronger leadership in the ANNISU-R to materialise its plan to launch a revolt with a huge participation of people," Neupane said.
The party's student faction in-charge Netra Bikram Chand `Biplav' was also present on the occasion. "We have briefed the party leaders about the preparations for the 18th national conference that is set to begin in to begin in Kirtipur on December 10," Neupane said. On the occasion, party leaders called for a stronger leadership in the student's wing at this critical juncture of Nepali politics. Vice-presidents Ramdip Acharya and Yubaraj Chaulagain and general secretary Himal Sharma have staked claim on the student union's top post.
They, however, said the union would select the leadership through a consensus. The union has never elected any of its panels since its establishment. "The party and the student leaders select the leadership as per the need of the nation," said Jagrit Rayamajhi, vice president and chief of the publicity department of the union.
The Maoist party's student wing has invited student leaders from more than 18 different countries, including Greece, Sweden, France, Germany, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and India, for the conference. It has also invited Gonzalo's son and Che Guevara's grand daughter for the conference.
"The Europe district committee of the UCPN-M has been working to bring both of them," said Yubaraj Chaulagain, who heads the guest relations department of the union. "According to our representatives in Europe, Gonzalo's son will come by the eve of the inaugural session of the conference if everything goes as planned," Chaulagain said. He said the union has given priority to like-minded student unions.
