Recent developments in the Government of India's undeclared war on the land, lives, livelihood, and lifeways of the adivasis, known as "Operation Green Hunt" have brought this war to national and international notice. A systematic attack on the adivasis, whose presence is an inconvenience for the development designs of a modernizing state and its globalized economy is being resisted by the people of the forests in India under the leadership of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). This resistance of the aboriginal people is being framed in the dominant media as it always is, as violent, savage etc., while the legitimacy of the resistance is covered over by the fearful name of "Maoism." We give you links to two articles written from two different points of view that give an excellent background to the current situation. As can be expected, Arundhati Roy has been severely attacked and has had a case lodged against her for her courageous report.
